Mayor Johnson is a graduate of Clemson University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree and Med Degree in counseling. After graduation the Mayor taught at Hand
Middle School in Columbia, SC for two years before joining the Richland County Sheriff’s Department in July 1974 as a Patrol Officer. Johnson hosted a children’s
television show known as Deputy Billy & Friends on behalf of the Sheriff’s Department on WLTX television. Johnson rose through the ranks as a Polygraph
Examiner and later a Captain of the Uniform Division. Johnson left the Sheriff’s Office in July 1988 and was appointed Executive Director of the Criminal Justice
Academy where he served until July 1994. The rest if Mayor Johnson’s career was spent at SCETV where he directed a satellite training network for police, fire
service, and EMT’s. As well as, Owner of Rick Johnson Polygraph Services.
